Besides, if it felt too much like the rules were being bent, at least it was consistent. The rules are never broken; the author only plays with them, if a little too freely. I can live with that. The book sees him going through the you're-too-good-for-me stage , a trope that I personally despise a lot.
I think I would have enjoyed it even more, had this issue been handled some other way. But Paul is still the cutest and sweetest guy that ever walked the Earth s , and once again it was utterly impossible for me not to love him to pieces.
I melt - melt - inside when, in that splendid chapter 21 , he just walks in and tells them apart by sight alone. My heart did a double take, you know. Like I'd just jumped from a height, or taken off on a plane. Paul Markov is one of the hugest book crushes I've ever had, and I have no regrets.
The fact that he's smoking hot certainly helps too. Yes, I'm very much trying to make you curious about what actually happens in it.
Me busted. She knows the timing, she knows how to set the pace , she knows how to build a plot so that these three elements merge together in a perfect balance, so as not to make the story too slow nor too fast, too empty nor too packed.
The are a couple of moments a little less brilliant that Gray's standard , a couple of useless conversations or episodes that, in my opinion, had to feel more emotional this I blame on the writing, actually , but they are only a few and aren't very likely to spoil your reading experience.
One instance could be view spoiler [Paul's supposed death. I could tell it wasn't real from the way it was written: it felt so flat. No way the actual death of a main character could actually be handled that way -too sloppy hide spoiler ].
So, yes, the plot is stunning. One universe after the other, one world after the other -fabulous. I had no breathing space and I didn't want any.
So good. You actually brought tears to my eyes, man. And, Good Theo, you did too. Too precious for this world. Good thing you have plenty at your disposal. Like the evil version of Marguerite's parents, who view spoiler [give up the very moment their project is sabotaged. It didn't feel right -it felt too easy, actually.
Someone who was ready to destroy whole universes until a couple of minutes ago doesn't just give up like that. It wasn't believable hide spoiler ]. But in dimension after dimension, world after world, fate gives us a chance. Obviously I'm lying, because in a minute my brain will be flooded with things I had to say and should have written in the review I wouldn't feel comfortable if that didn't happen; with me, it's par for the course but okay.
What I can add is, this series gave me so much. It came in a moment when I really, really needed a story to obsess over and a book boyfriend to crush over and it perfectly fulfilled my expectations.
I loved it immensely in spite of all its flaws , and I'm pretty sure someone, once, said that "in spite of" is the building block of love itself. It's easy to love perfection, but imperfection is what makes you you , which is also the message this series tries to convey.
And to me, it got through. That's my country! Is this another good reason to hyperventilate or is this another good reason to hyperventilate? View all 26 comments. Full review update! It was really good- but I have a lot of feelings some of them mixed. The plot was just as wack as the first two which honestly is what makes this series so good.
This book is no exception- you'll get to visit some wild places. It picks up right where book 1 left off, and there are no unanswered questions. The first chapter will seem a bit out of place - but just go with it. In ess Full review update! In essence, this in entire story is just plain fun and Claudia Gray is a wild author and I love her for it.
I'm interested in checking out her other series now for sure. I love Theo. This is no secret, especially if you've read my other reviews. Everything about this guy. Theo is by far the best part of this book, and even in his evil form, he's got a good heart. Even evil Theo does something horrid but kinda redeems himself. Not to mention he has much more personality than Paul and he's just more interesting to read about.
Plain and simple. Not to mention completely clever and hilarious. They will definitely inevitably fall for each other because Theo is perfection and she will be powerless against his charms. Seriously, Claudia Here's what didn't work for me this time Honestly, I understand why people like Paul but I was just not feeling it.
Marguerite was in a constant mental battle over him and I got a little tired of her drooling and going on and on about the guy. I don't hate him, but by golly I was over them two. That being said, again, I really don't hate him..
I got through it fine, except for the part where an actual ancient mummy fell on me. Way less fun than it looks in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Paul frowns. But his gaze slowly becomes more distant, even confused. Remind me, I know this. Who is Wicked, Miss Caine? I step closer, which ignites hope in his eyes until the moment I reach into his shirt, take hold of his Firebird and set a reminder.
The Triad is still out to destroy the multiverse and they have decided the best way to do this is take out all the other Marguerites in all the other parallel dimensions. That leaves our Marguerite with the task of running from dimension to dimension trying to stop Wicked. The above being said, I still really enjoyed how everything was so neatly wrapped up.
I loved how people had to cooperate across dimensions to stop the Triad and how huge the whole thing gets. Sins of Sevin. Penelope Ward.
Normally I get myself out of my own perilous situations, but this, today? This is bad. The propellers send new winds to buffet me. My adrenaline-flooded brain refuses to make sense of the shapes below me any longer; I might as well be staring down at artwork by Jackson Pollock with its squiggles and blots and spills. I imagine a Pollock painting with a huge red splotch in the center. Blood red. Nothing else will remain of me if I let go of this cable. My fingers hurt so much.
My shoulders. My back. Within minutes, I will fall to my death. Sweat beads along my face despite the chilly winds blowing around me.
